We loaded up the vans with coolers, water jugs and middle school students as we departed to serve the community of West Michigan. We all gathered together and prayed out loud before we started the day. This was the scene every morning for iserve 2015 before we departed the church. The students resided in the walls of Ivanrest Church through the night but by day they were serving super heroes. They went to organizations like The Dock, Harbor House, DA Blodgett and Family Promise. They served by sanitizing toys, emptying out a large storage area, serving special needs adults and baking cookies. Friends, adults and high school students served beside each other as they became the hands and feet of Christ. This serve project was fueled with energy, serving and growing closer to their Savior. They took a look into the very words of Jesus to find out truths about their lives that applied to them right now. The challenge they where given at the end of the week was the question if they would be the 72 disciples Jesus sent out or if they would be the three people who made excuses after Jesus asked them to follow him. It is easy to be a disciple when it is convenient but Jesus will use those who follow him no matter what in powerful ways just like the 72 he sent out. I am so proud of these middle school students and I was privileged to see them serve with all their hearts as they learned about what it means to be an example in speech, love, purity, conduct and purity. I saw Jesus in these students as they served and grew closer to him. We are looking forward to iserve 2016 already.
Our great leaders for iserve.
