Music in Motion provides a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for children (ages 2-5) and their parents (or grandparents or caregivers) to have fun moving to music, playing instruments, hearing stories, and learning more about themselves and others. Music in Motion is designed to be a fun and engaging place where children can grow and develop their language skills, fine motor skills, and social skills.
We gather in the Ivanrest Church gym most Tuesday mornings during the school year. Two notable exceptions are any Election Day because our gym is a polling station and days that Grandville Public schools are delayed or canceled. Please park behind church between 9:30 – 9:45 and enter through the back door. Kids who arrive early are welcome to run around the gym or color, but we try to begin promptly at 9:45 and need kids by the carpet squares in the gym and caretakers beside them on the floor or in a nearby chair. For the next 45 minutes, a gifted leader will help kids to listen and respond to music in a variety of ways, usually with a story or other activity included.
Free refreshments–coffee, juice boxes, and snacks–are available at 10:30, and kids have opportunities for “free play,” but we still need supervision from caretakers as long as you are in the building. No advance sign-up is needed; all are welcome to come as often as it works for you to attend. We invite (but do not require) all adults who attend to be on our email list for updates throughout the year.
Scheduling Notes: If Grandville Public Schools has a delay or no school, Music in Motion will not be held. Also, Music in Motion will not be held on Election Days (due to voting in the building).

Here is what to expect at a normal Music in Motion:
- Welcome Time (9:30-9:45 AM): You will be greeted at the West Wing doors by Ivanrest Church Staff, can get your name tag, and find a spot in the circle.
- Music Time (9:45-10:30 AM): Join the large group circle as we use fun and upbeat music and rhymes during which the children, with encouragement of their parent/caregiver, will use motions, simple instruments, and other fun materials (such as scarves and leaves) to engage in the large group time. We will also read book(s) with the large group.
- We believe there is great value in parents and caregivers participating with their children in the Music Time as it promotes a strong bond/connection with their child(ren) and helps to make the Music time more fun for everyone.
- Snack and Play Time (10:30-11:00 AM): You and your child can enjoy a healthy snack with friends and also enjoy a time of free play with books, coloring, activities, and balls.
