Music in Motion

Music in Motion is a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for children (ages 2-6) and their parents (or grandparents or caregivers) to have fun dancing and moving to music, learning, and hearing stories. Music in Motion is designed to be a fun and engaging place where children can grow and develop their language skills, fine motor skills, and social skills.

We are excited to begin the inside edition of Music in Motion on Tuesday, January 19 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM in the Ivanrest Church gym. Please park behind church and enter through the back door. Once in the gym, you will see carpet squares spaced roughly 12 feet apart, so if you picture the carpet square in the middle of your blanket (or feel free to bring your blanket), you will have roughly that amount of space for your family unit.

We will spend the first 15 minutes getting everyone their bags of instruments and situated in the gym, so it’s no problem if you are running a little late. From roughly 9:45 – 10:30, Ashley will lead your children and any adults who want to participate through a variety of fun rhythms and movements that sync with her children’s playlist.

Our church policy is for everyone over age 4 to wear a mask inside, and we have extras at church if you forget. We also cannot serve food in the building, so snacks will be available as you exit … and feel free to fellowship outside with the snacks as long as you wish.

In order to distance properly, we can have a maximum of 50 people in the gym, so please note the total number of people in your party when you sign up. As always, please let us know if you have any questions … thanks!

Scheduling Notes: If Grandville Public Schools has a delay or no school, Music in Motion will not be held. Also, Music in Motion will not be held on Election Days (due to voting in the building).

Here is what to expect at a normal Music in Motion:

  • Welcome Time (9:00-9:30 AM): You will be greeted at the West Wing doors by Ivanrest Church Staff, can get your name tag, and find a spot in the circle.
  • Music Time (9:30-10:15 AM): Join the large group circle as we use fun and upbeat music and rhymes during which the children, with encouragement of their parent/caregiver, will use motions, simple instruments, and other fun materials (such as scarves and leaves) to engage in the large group time. We will also read book(s) with the large group.
  • We believe there is great value in parents and caregivers participating with their children in the Music Time as it promotes a strong bond/connection with their child(ren) and helps to make the Music time more fun for everyone.
  • Snack and Play Time (10:15-11:00 AM): You and your child can enjoy a healthy snack with friends and also enjoy a time of free play with books, coloring, activities, and balls.
