“A new command I give you,” Jesus says here, “Love one another.” That’s the mandatum, the command  Jesus gives here, his last full night before his death. And what does that command look like? What kind of love is Jesus commanding? The kind that looks like that of a servant, a servant, even, who washes others’ feet.
