Cruelty is Apostasy

Galatians 5:13-26

Every parent knows the line, “Do as I say, not as I do,” doesn’t work. It doesn’t work with kids, but it turns out it doesn’t work with Christians either. Christians who talk about God, the Gospel, and grace, but then treat others (including their political opponents) cruelly provide a poor witness for Christ. It doesn’t work. Cruelty has no place in the Christian life, and, as such, it has no place in our politics either. As people transformed and renewed by the Holy Spirit, we need to show the world a different way.

A second book I’ve found helpful in preparing this series is Christians in the Age of Outrage by Ed Stetzer. It’s one of the better books I’ve read recently, and I highly recommend it.
