Desire
Luke 19:1-10
Historically, Eastern Orthodox believers have prepared for the season of Lent by reflecting on five Biblical themes: Desire, Humility, Exile, Love, and Forgiveness. For our Lenten sermon series this year, we will join them in working our way through these five aspects of the Christian life. This morning we begin with the first theme of Desire by looking at the well-known story of Zacchaeus the tax collector.
If you’re looking to go deeper into this sermon series, I’ve adapted parts of it from Alexander Schmemann’s book Great Lent, which I’ve found to be a helpful resource on understanding and journeying through the Christian season of Lent.
