Encounter With Our God
Mark 1:32-39
As we said the last two weeks, the disciplines of solitude and silence help us encounter three “persons”. First, they help us encounter our (true) self, which is what we looked at two weeks ago. Second, they help us encounter our enemy, Satan, which is what we looked at last week. And, third, they help us encounter God, which is what we’re looking at today.
A few books I found helpful in preparing this series were Invitation to Silence and Solitude by Ruth Haley Barton and Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport. While I don’t agree with everything these authors say (I hardly ever do!), I found their books thought-provoking and helpful for thinking about how we, as modern Christians, can engage the spiritual disciplines of solitude and silence.
