Psalm 42; Matthew 5:6

There is nothing more timely or relevant than to ask what it is we want out of life. The difficulty is that there seems to be an infinite number of answers to that question – and most of them are wrong! What the Christian should want from or in life, this Beatitude is saying, is “righteousness,” the righteousness of God. While most of us have no trouble wanting to be right, we are not as eager or determined to be righteous. And the way Jesus phrases it here, we are not to be hoping for a bit of
righteousness but more and more and more of it until every single aspect of our lives is characterized by Godliness. God’s
gracious promise is that if that is what we truly want He will fill us with it.
