1 Samuel 8

As we’ve said, one of the main themes of Lent is the theme of repentance. Put simply, Lent is the time of the Church Year when we more intentionally look at the ways we fall short in our relationship with God. Today we look at one of the ways that God’s Old Testament people, the Israelites, fell short in their relationship with God by putting their trust in the idea of a king rather than God, something we’re unfortunately still tempted by and give into today.
