King

Mark 11:1-11

Last week, we saw Jesus on a collision course with Caesar. This week, riding into Jerusalem on an unridden colt to great pomp and circumstance, Jesus is on a collision course with the Jewish leaders. Once again, he’s challenging the powers that be. And yet, also once again, he does so in a way that subverts expectations and the things the people now celebrating him anticipated (they’ll soon change their tune to “Crucify him!”). Put simply, Jesus is a different kind of King from the kings of the world, both in the way he conquers and in the way he reigns.
