The Servant of All – Maundy Thursday

Mark 9:35

Today is “Maundy Thursday.” “Maundy” comes from the Latin word, mandatum, meaning “command.” Today, then, is literally “Command Thursday.” And what command does today refer  to? What mandatum are we given? What are we mandated or commanded to do or to be? Well, like Jesus himself, we are commanded and mandated to serve others, to love them, and to put them first, ahead of ourselves. That’s the command or mandatum of this day. That’s what we’re supposed to be like as Christians. Because that’s what Christ was first like for us: The servant of all.
