Monkery See, Monkery Do

 Romans 1:16-17; 3:21-26

Martin Luther was a monk’s monk. He tried to out-“monk” them all. He succeeded in that but failed in his overall goal: to find acceptance in God’s sight. He spent every moment of his time and every ounce of his energy denying himself, when the secret to peace lay in accepting his Savior. When he learned that the just shall live by faith and not by obedience, he fell into the arms of grace and finally found peace. It is still to be found there – and only there – today.
