No Other gods

Exodus 20:1-3

The Christian faith is all about allegiances. Who or what has preeminence in our lives? Is it God or someone or something else? In other words, who or what do we primarily orient and organize our lives around? That’s the question our faith asks. And that’s the question this first command in the Ten Commandments asks too: Who or what has our highest loyalty? We’ll explore that question together as we unpack this command and how it applies to our political allegiances this morning.

A few books I found helpful in preparing this series were Not In It to Win It by Andy Stanley, The After Party by Curtis Chang and Nancy French, and The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory by Tim Alberta. While I don’t agree with everything these authors say (I hardly ever do!), I found their books thought-provoking examinations of how Christians should (and shouldn’t) engage the modern American political process.
