Mark 1:40-45

In ancient Judea, skin diseases, known collectively as leprosy, were considered a mark of impurity. To touch or come into contact with someone with leprosy not only could make you sick; it could make you impure too. Here in our text for this morning, a man with leprosy comes to Jesus. But rather than avoid him or turn him away, Jesus reaches out and touches him. The effect is both shocking and dramatic, and it tells us something radical about what purity and our relationship with God will look like in the coming New Creation.
