Questionable Thanks
Deuteronomy 26:1-11
Today is a day of national thanksgiving. It is a holiday. It is a family day. It is a feast day. It is a day of worship. It is a day for what we might call “questionable thanks.” Not a dubious kind of thanks, but thanks that gives rise to a question, the answer to which points always to God. Let it also be thanks that allows us to tell our “story,” a story that points inevitably to God. And let it be thanks as well that finds us, with basket in hand, offering our gifts incessantly to God.
