Sight for the Blind
John 9:1-7
“I am the light of the world,” Jesus says, and in this text he proves it. As John makes clear in the first chapter of this gospel, Jesus was there with the Father in the beginning. He was there when God first spoke light into the darkness and order into the chaos. Now, in a world gone dark and blind with sin, Jesus fills it with light yet again. This sign is a hint of that. By healing a man born blind, Jesus is making clear that while he has power over physical blindness, he has power over spiritual blindness too. He is our light. He is the one who heals us. And he is the one who can give us sight, when once we were blind.
