Slander is Sin

Exodus 20:16

Heidelberg Catechism Q&A 112 expands the meaning of this command. Among other things, not bearing false testimony means not twisting others’ words, not gossiping or slandering, and not joining in condemning anyone rashly. Per usual, the Catechism is counter-culturally prophetic. And that’s what we’re going to talk about today: How we can speak Christianly in our political discourse, including (especially!) when we disagree.

A second book I’ve found helpful in preparing this series is Christians in the Age of Outrage by Ed Stetzer. It’s one of the better books I’ve read recently, and I highly recommend it.
