In certain genres of music “remixes” are a big deal. A remix is an older song that another artist borrows, puts a new spin on, and then re-releases. Sometimes remixes don’t get much attention, but sometimes they end up getting even more traction than the original! Well, here in John 6, Jesus does something similar. He “remixes” an Old Testament miracle (and a significant one at that!). Just like Moses provided God’s people with bread from heaven–Manna–during their wilderness wanderings, Jesus provides a crowd of 5,000 with bread here too. It’s his fourth sign in John’s Gospel, and yet one more revelation about who he really is–God’s Son, the Messiah.
