The Transfiguration
Luke 9:28-36
“Thin places” are places where religious people believe the veil between heaven and earth is especially thin. Heaven, the divine, the transcendent breaks through in those places and floods our reality. But in the Christian faith, we don’t have places that are “thin”; instead, we have a person. His name is Jesus. And here in this text–in his transfiguration–we see the veil torn; the earthly aspects of who he is fade away, at least for a moment; and the glory of God shine through. We’ll see it again later, but this is the first glimpse we, and Jesus’ disciples, get of who he really is.
