Philippians 2:1-11

What unites us? These days, increasingly, it’s our politics. For instance, if you’re conservative, you tend to appreciate and hang out with other conservatives. If you’re liberal, you tend to spend time with other liberals. But, as Christians, that is not what unites us. Rather, it’s Christ. And so, conservative or liberal, that’s what should hold us together. We should confess and remain united in Christ, even across political differences.

A few books I found helpful in preparing this series were Not In It to Win It by Andy Stanley, The After Party by Curtis Chang and Nancy French, and The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory by Tim Alberta. While I don’t agree with everything these authors say (I hardly ever do!), I found their books thought-provoking examinations of how Christians should (and shouldn’t) engage the modern American political process.
